BACKGROUND

UNIVERSITY of Vudal (in Rabaul, East New Britain Province, Papua New Guinea) was established in 1965 as "Vudal Agricultural College", a college of the then Department of Stock and Fisheries. It provided certificate and later diploma training predominantly in agriculture.

It became a college of PNG University of Technology in 1992 and remained so until 1997 when a Government Ministerial Task Force recommended that it become a full autonomous University.

In 2000, the University affiliated the Popondetta Agricutural Training Institute, thus renaming it to Oro Campus. In 2005, it affiliated the National Fisheries College in Kavieng, New Ireland Province in preparation for the Diploma/Bachelors in Fisheries and Marine Resources academic programme which commenced in 2006. The pioneer diploma students of this programme will graduate in November, this year.
